He is used to being relied on.
Huddled in the sheets out of cold, A vaguely recalled that fact, feeling his temperature climbing higher and higher meanwhile.
Wasn’t it him who wobbled Z’s bed to wake him up to morning exercises? Wasn’t it him who bandaged Z whenever he got hurt in the basketball competition?
He always felt it his responsibility to look after Z, a carefree naughty boy.
Yet he fuzzily realized that it was years ago, back when they were at college. And now…
“My poor lover—Would you sob for us till morning—”
A arduously tore his eyes open to a threadlike slit and focused on that figure showing how to perform the tone more naturally.
Right. A aimlessly meditated. Z’s grown up now. They reunited here to take part in this reality singing contest as a team, as half-strangers through years. Plus he had caught a cold, resulting in him being left out reluctantly.
“You need rest.”
A remembered Z persuaded him into bed like this with a bitter smile.
“But I don’t want to.” He refuted at once, his voice, however, had been too weak to be heard.
“I’m frightened.” He kept on murmuring.
“I’m frightened that there will be nothing left between you and me, if I’m no longer able to watch you over.”
No one has heard him.
The next time A regained his consciousness, it was only minutes before the formal performance. Obviously he had fainted. He sensed people’s considerate views from all directions of the narrow room, one of which was especially scorching that he couldn’t even dare to look up.
He was panicked, of himself being useless.
Holding back burning tears, A struggled up and stumbled forward.
“Don’t worry. I can handle this. I can stand on the stage. I won’t be a burden to any of you—”
“Like hell you would!”
Dashing to A, Z grabbed his arms and threw him to the couch.
“Don’t you ever care about your life? Get rest! Now!”
Z’s eyes got swelled with tears, just as every time he got into trouble and stood in front of A for help before.
“Just for once in our lives. Trust me. Rely on me. I can manage that for you.”
“—Of course.”
A rested serenely in Z’s shaking hug.
“I would rely on you this time.”
